The restoration of the Citadelle de Marseille relies on the ACTA VISTA association, active since 2002 in the development of insertion work sites and professional training dedicated to the trades of ancient buildings.

The project's architects are Isabelle Guerin, Philippe Matonti, and Alessandra Riccio, heritage architects who approach the project with both archaeological and historical perspectives. It aims to enhance the site's heritage dimension and contribute to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the fort. This initiative is part of an environmentally responsible approach aimed at preserving built heritage for future generations.

The principles of this ecological approach include conservation, restoration, reuse, and transmission of heritage, thus forming a holistic approach to environmental preservation. Restoration sites operate within the framework of "sustainable heritage" management, prioritizing the conservation and enhancement of the "substance" that gives authenticity to the property. This encourages respect for and reuse of structures and materials, following a logic of resource economy and short circuits. When it is necessary to integrate new materials, particular attention is paid to the production of local resources, such as stones, wood, bricks, lime, and sands, adapted to the heritage due to their characteristics.
