Marseille Jazz des Cinq Continents - Tigran Hamasyan
For 25 years, Tigran Hamasyan has been building his own jazz universe, blending innovation with traditional Armenian repertoire. A prodigious pianist, he caught the attention of Chick Corea and Avishai Cohen at the age of 13 during the Yerevan Jazz Festival. Everything took off from there: winning the Thelonious Monk competition, studying in Los Angeles, releasing 11 albums, and participating in numerous projects, including Abu Nawas Rhapsody with Dhafer Youssef.
Pushing his artistic boundaries even further, he now returns with The Bird of A Thousand Voices, an opera inspired by a mythological Armenian initiation tale. On July 4th, the Citadelle of Marseille will come alive with the vibrant values of this bird of a thousand voices and, through Tigran’s stage magic, will invite us—if only for one evening—into a haven of peace.
The 25th edition of the Marseille Jazz des Cinq Continents has arrived! It’s a landmark year for the festival, which is giving its brightest colors, reflected in its vibrant poster designed by renowned illustrator and filmmaker Javier Mariscal. To take us on a journey around the world, the festival—always deeply rooted in its time and in its territory—remains true to its nomadic spirit within the city. It will unfold across Marseille’s iconic and historic sites, including, among others, the Citadelle of Marseille.
